Welcome to a new monthly series of my 5 song obsessions for the month!
1. The Light in the Piazza- Kelli O’Hara
I love musicals, and although this one came out a while ago, I decided to listen to the musical The Light in the Piazza again after watching Kelli O’Hara’s AMAZING performance on NBC’s Peter Pan live. Her voice in the title song “The Light in the Piazza” is so lovely and if you’re into musicals, this is definitely worth a listen.
2. Afire Love – Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran. His voice is EVERYTHING and his song writing skills are top knotch. I first heard this song when it came across my iTunes Ed Sheeran radio and it broke my heart. It’s such a nice break from the typical pop material with its’ raw emotion and heartfelt lyrics. For anyone who has ever lost someone important in their lives, it’ll get you right in your heart.
3. Blank Space/Style Mashup – Louisa Wendorff
T.Swift has pretty much just ruled the end of 2014 with Shake It Off, Blank Space, her Christmas gift viral video, 1989 secret sessions, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, etc. But instead of recommending that you listen to those songs, give this one a listen. It’s one of the most beautiful, simplistic mashups I’ve heard in a while. Louisa Wendorff rocks this one.
4. Money Makes Her Smile – Bruno Mars
So “Uptown Funk” is an amazing and we all know it. Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars made such a fantastic song together, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the duo work together. Mark Ronson worked on and wrote a lot of songs in Unorthodox Jukebox. And I know we heard a bunch of songs on the radio like “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man”, but there are so many incredible songs on the album with a sexy beat that deserves your listen. Money Make her Smile is just one of them. So… GO GO
5. Burnin’ Up – Jessie J ft. 2 Chainz
Despite the fact that 2 Chainz rap sounds like he’s chanting “Hodor” over and over again in his rap section, I’m obsessed with this song. I mean. Jessie J. Her vocals. She seriously kills it. That’s all.
Hopefully this mini list has exposed you to some new music, reminded you of an old obsession, or given you a new song to listen to! Happy listening!!
